Welcome to the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience of Aging (CANA) Lab at Saint Louis University
The CANA Lab investigates the interactions of cognition and emotion processing across the lifespan, with the goal of identifying behavioral and neural markers that may influence or precede declining cognition or mental health in late life.
Our research takes a multi-method approach to examining the intersection of cognition and emotion in multiple domains, for example the relationship between emotion regulation and cognitive control across the adult lifespan, and how aging and emotion affects the cognitive and neural processes critical for self-control of our thoughts and responses. Other lab projects investigate how brain network functioning is impacted by Alzheimer pathology and whether older adults' brain networks can change through interventions. We investigate these topics using behavioral, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging techniques.
